Investigate the Openings

June 1, 2025

Greetings yogis,

Sending this one out from, as a dear friend of mine used to say, ‘a day of the rarest kind.’ A day where, for whatever reason, everything just flows sweetly. A palpable trusting upon waking that the day will be sprinkled with bits of magic in many forms, and the resistance minimal. With nothing but green lights, these are the kind of days to relish.

I investigate these days, ripe with their openings. What are the circumstances that help one feel more connected and held within the mysterious web of life? From the outside, nothing else has changed and all things are the same. The Earth still spins on her axis, phenomenon is rising and falling in and out of creation, and yet somehow the experience – and experiencer – is completely different. What creates this? Today, I attribute it to wonder and gratitude.

In secret, little moments between the ‘doing,’ I just pause in pockets of awe. Tiny, sacred breaths to say inside, ‘thank you.’ Often, I don’t even know who I’m addressing it to. But that isn't the point. The point is to move toward the moments where our hearts bubble over and to consciously express gratitude for them. The universe is listening, always.

Peering out the window, the red-tailed hawk soars over our little cove, banking to the right with the subtlest shift of feather. The world is spilling over and I am moved to tears witnessing the grace. Moving towards these openings of awareness expands them, curiosity sustains them and gratitude roots them into our being. And the more often we do this, the more we change the baseline of our very existence.

Will the other challenging moments come along less frequently? Perhaps not, but we need the fodder anyways. Difficulty gives us strength, inviting us to flap our wings more earnestly and love more unabashedly. It makes rare days such as this one all the more exquisite.

So here I am, sitting quietly, listening and doing nothing at all really. And yet, the entirety of creation smiles back at me.

May you all know peace and your place in the universe.
