Nestled in the pulsing heart of the Montana Rockies is a place like no other – Feathered Pipe Ranch. One of the oldest centers for conscious living and yoga retreats in the country, Feathered Pipe offers workshop experiences guided by some of the world’s finest teachers in a relaxed, leisurely, nature-drenched setting. Visitors can wander the sacred land, exploring ambling brooks fed by pure mountain springs, open vistas and star gazing like no other place in the world. You can just as easily find community with others, sitting on the open lawn in the shade of cottonwood trees, quaking aspens, and fragrant pine with an exquisite view out over the secluded lake.

Surrounded by millions of acres of forest and mountains, the Feathered Pipe Ranch is one of the country’s premier retreat centers. It is a vibrant and peaceful oasis to which our guests return eagerly year after year – inevitably leaving the Ranch feeling recharged and relaxed – and counting the days until they can again return.

For more than 40 years, the Ranch has been home to yoga and conscience living retreats that help us experience our wholeness and remember our intimate connection to all of life. Many of today’s foremost voices on yoga, meditation, wellness and health have come through our doors at one time or another - Joseph Campbell, K. Pattabhi Jois, Dr. Bernard Jensen, Dr. Andrew Weil, Lilias Folan, Angela Farmer, Mary Dunn, Rodney Yee, Patricia Walden, Erich Schiffmann, Judith Hanson Lasater and Seane Corn – to name only a few.

Nat Kendall

A dedicated student for the last 10+ years, he teaches vinyasa infused with all other limbs of yoga and has studied extensively with Rusty Wells, Janet Stone & Jai Uttal. His devotion-filled classes are invigorating and simultaneously nurturing as he creates a space filled with focus, kindness, laughter, chanting and great music to safely explore the deep benefits of the practice.

Exploring Montana before or after?

Please plan some extra time to explore this state! The Ranch itself is halfway between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks (3 hours by car in either direction), so you might consider coming a few days early or staying a few days after your retreat to take in one or both of these natural treasures. *Once your travel is confirmed, please email us at namaste@natkendall.com with your arrival/departure time and airline.

To which airport should I fly?

We recommend the Helena Regional Airport. Missoula International Airport and Bozeman International Airport are also feasible points of arrival but will require a two hour commute via bus or auto that you will need to coordinate on your own.

How do I get from Helena or the airport to the Ranch?

For retreats with Nat Kendall at Feathered Pipe the shuttle service is complimentary and can pick you up at the Helena airport or anywhere locally in Helena. For the airport, our driver will meet you at baggage claim wearing a Feathered Pipe t-shirt. We are now grouping some pick-ups, so you may have a 30 minute wait. Please send flight arrival/departure information to namaste@natkendall.com For hotels or B&B's, send us your location for pickup and we'll coordinate with you. For day of arrival questions, please call Eric at (406) 442-8196 with any updates or last minute travel changes.

What if I arrive early?

If you plan to be in the Helena area prior to the date when your retreat begins, several options are available for you to consider. If space is available, you may stay at the Feathered Pipe Ranch, but please call the office in advance to discuss this possibility. There are also plenty of hotels or Bed and Breakfast’s around Helena. Our shuttle service is happy to pick you up at your hotel on arrival day. We will contact you at your hotel to arrange your pick-up. There is plenty to do and see in Helena. Contact the local Chamber of Commerce at (800) 743-5362 or www.helenachamber.com

What time should I depart on the final day?

Ranch ROOM check-out is 11 am on the final day. If your flight is not scheduled to depart until later in the day, we will be happy to accommodate you and take you to the airport accordingly. Please inquire with the office if you’d like to explore extending your stay at the Feathered Pipe beyond your retreat experience as this option is available on a limited basis.

Massage and Bodywork

The Ranch is happy to boast that we have some of the best body workers around. Professional massage and bodywork is available during all retreats. Introductions to our bodyworkers and details about how to sign up and where to go for your session will be shared at the retreat orientation and appointments can be made then. It’s a good idea to sign up early as their schedules often fill quickly! Payment is by cash or check only; our bodyworkers do not accept credit cards.

How do I contact the “outside world”?

While we encourage a mindful unplug from devices, we understand if you need to stay connected. You may have to walk out up to the parking lot for cell phone service as we are at the very end of the road up in the Rockies, but there is wireless Internet access within the Main Lodge, Dining Hall and Chalet via the magic of satellite dishes! It’s best not to count on reliable cell phone or high-speed Internet service while you’re at the Ranch. If you need to be reached in an emergency, you can share the main phone number of the kitchen with family and friends.

What can I expect when it comes to food at the Ranch?

You can expect to eat very well! We are fortunate to have access to organic food through the Real Food Deli and Market in Helena – Montana’s first and only certified organic grocery store. This will be a VEGETARIAN retreat, no meat and no fish. But we will have colorful, nutrient rich meals lovingly prepared for us daily. Please email our team with any dietary preferences. namaste@natkendall.com

And what about other amenities?

We provide bedding, towels, and all the amenities you’d expect with indoor lodging. There is a cedar wood bathhouse with showers, a sauna, a hot tub and massage rooms. Outdoor lodging guests have their own private storage nook for toiletries and personal effects in the bathhouse. The bathhouse is no more than a five-minute walk from any accommodation.

The Ranch provides a laundry service, sending your laundry to town and returning it the next day for a small charge.

What should I bring?

Of course you’ll need comfortable clothing to practice in. Outside of practice, the atmosphere is casual so please dress for your comfort. Clothes you’ll potentially need include: shorts, t-shirts, a rain jacket, slacks or jeans for chilly evenings, light daytime attire, bathing suit, and a warm sweater or jacket for our delightfully cool summer evenings. Don’t worry about bedding – we have more than enough to keep you warm whether you are in the Main Lodge or snuggled up toasty in a yurt, tent or tipi. Bring comfortable walking or running shoes for wandering here and there throughout the Ranch grounds, and slippers or socks for wearing in the Main Lodge as we do not allow outdoor shoes on the Main Lodge room floor. You will need a travel alarm clock, flashlight and water bottle. Also bring cash for bodywork, Shanti Boutique purchases and end of retreat staff tips.

Do I need to bring a yoga mat?

The Ranch does have mats, however if you have a mat that you prefer using, we highly recommend bringing it and labeling it. The Ranch does have blocks, blankets and bolsters as well.

I'm new to the practice. Will this retreat be ok for me?

Yes. Nat offers classes that will meet all levels where they are: beginners, intermediate or advanced. We have an incredible team of assistants to support with modifications and variations to support everyone's unique practice.

What is the daily schedule?

7:30AM-9:30AM Morning Session (Meditation and japa mantra followed by asana and discussion) 9:30AM Breakfast 1:00PM Lunch 4:30PM-6:30PM Afternoon session (Chanting, more playful flow with moments to breakdown poses, discussion) 6:30PM Dinner One day mid week we'll take the afternoon session off and all do a big river float and sunset picnic. The time in between sessions is free time to connect with fellow teachers and guests or simply explore the trails, lake, Ranch, etc.

The accommodation I wanted is full, what can I do?

If you'd like to get on the waitlist for a specific accommodation, please send us an email to namaste@natkendall.com and let us know what you'd like. Spaces very rarely open back up, however if they do, we'd love to get you into your first choice.
