Gathering in Truth

Greetings yogis,

Satsang, a Sanskrit term coming from sat (truth) and sangha (spiritual community) translates as "being in the company of truth." This is where we gather to connect with our true nature. This is not the type of truth one might seek when looking outward for intellectual answers, but the type of truth that is the ineffable feeling when we see each other for who we really are. With our armor down and the layers shed, our divinity is revealed.

Having just finished another bhakti yoga retreat in Montana, my heart overflows with this indescribable feeling. Bearing witness to the many souls who were willing to share their authentic self stirs up something beyond words. Gathered around the fire, many moments of truth rang like a bell as we simply basked in our collective prayer, listening to the crackle of the fire and witnessing each other as the infinite.

Our modern world constantly pulls us away from such moments. Running haphazardly on the hamster wheel of our self-induced busyness, we forget our connection to the divine. Satsang, however, brings us right back. Moments become sanctified in the simplicity of our be-ing together. In these timeless breaths, our prayer needs no explanation and our separate stories dissolve into one.

In the ease of these gatherings we simply give love to become love. No reciprocal transactions are needed and the magic unfolds. On this path, keeping good company and staying close to your practice is crucial. Lean into a sangha that lifts you up and mirrors back your spark. Shine it unabashedly and become a lighthouse for others looking for connection, and truth. We all are these days.

When we show up in our true nature, we remember the universal truth: that we are love, that we come from love, and that there is indeed another way of being. There is a way of being that needs no explanation or proving, a way that is more congruent, harmonious and of service to all than what we’ve been taught to believe.

And when truth feels hard to find amidst the shouting from social media platforms, come back to the simplicity of finding it in one another. Truth needs no words, it is found when we sit still and bear witness to one another. You’ll know it by seeing it in the eyes that look back at you when your mind is quiet enough.

May you all know your own true nature, your highest self...
